Search County Jail Rosters
510 county jail rosters across 41 states. Type a county or a state name — results appear as you type, and each one opens that county's current roster, jail address and phone number.
If the county is not listed
A county appears here only once we have a verified official source for its roster. A missing county usually means its sheriff's office does not publish booking data in a format that can be read reliably, or publishes it only as a scanned document. For those counties, contact the detention centre directly.
Remember that people are booked into the county where the arrest happened, not where they live. If a search comes up empty, the neighbouring counties are the next place to look — and someone booked in the last few hours may not be in any sync yet.
Search the right county first
People are booked into the county where the arrest happened, not the county where they live. Someone stopped on a highway two counties over is held there. This single mistake accounts for most failed searches: a roster that returns nothing proves nothing until the neighbouring counties have been checked too.
If you do not know where the arrest happened, start with the county of residence and work outward. If the person was picked up by a city police department, they may be held in a municipal lockup for a short period before transfer, and that hold often never appears on a county roster at all.
Timing matters more than people expect
Booking is a process, not a moment: fingerprints, medical screening, property inventory and record checks typically take two to eight hours, and a busy weekend night takes longer. Counties then publish on their own schedule on top of that. Someone arrested tonight may not be searchable until tomorrow morning.
That is why every county page here carries the jail's phone number alongside the roster. For a booking in the last few hours, the booking desk is the only source that can answer, and no directory can.
Once you find the person
Note the booking number. Depositing money, scheduling a visit, giving a bondsman the details and asking about a court date are all faster with it than with a name. Then check whether a bond amount is listed — if none appears, a judge has usually not set one yet, and nothing can be paid until that happens.
Our guides cover what comes next in plain language: how bail and bond work, what a hold or detainer means, sending money, visitation and finding the court date.
A jail roster is a custody record, not a court docket. Charges listed at booking are allegations, and every person is presumed innocent unless convicted by a court.
