An arrest is not a conviction. Charges recorded at booking are allegations made by the arresting agency. Every person is presumed innocent unless and until convicted by a court, and most people listed on any given day have not been convicted of the charge shown.

What a custody record establishes, and what it does not

A roster entry establishes one narrow fact: that a public agency recorded a named person as being in its custody, on a stated date, on a stated charge. That is the whole of it.

It does not establish guilt. It does not show what a prosecutor ultimately filed, whether the charge was reduced or dropped, what happened at any hearing, or how the case ended. Prosecutors routinely amend charges within days of booking, and jail rosters are almost never updated when they do. A charge that appears here may never have been filed in court at all.

Accuracy and timing

Records are reproduced from official county booking sources as of the last successful sync, and every county page states when that was. They may be incomplete, delayed or already superseded.

Specific limits worth knowing:

• Booking lag. Booking takes hours, and counties publish on their own schedule on top of that. Someone arrested tonight may not appear until tomorrow.
• Release lag. Releases are often recorded hours after they physically happen, and some counties simply drop the entry without recording a release at all.
• Data entry. Names are typed at intake, at any hour. Misspellings, transposed first and middle names, and missing suffixes are common.
• Charge text. Charges appear exactly as the county recorded them. Any category shown on this site is derived from that text and is imperfect by construction.
• Coverage. This directory covers the counties whose booking systems publish machine-readable rosters. A county that is absent is not a statement about that county.

For anything time-sensitive — whether someone is in custody right now, the exact current bond, whether another agency has placed a hold — the jail and the court are the authorities. Every county page carries the official source link and, where available, the facility's phone number for exactly that reason.

Facility details

Jail addresses, phone numbers and capacities shown on county pages come from the US Department of Homeland Security HIFLD facility dataset, and each page shows when that record was last updated at source. We publish them as received and do not independently verify them. Call ahead before travelling, and tell us if something is wrong.

Not a consumer report

This site is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the information here is not a consumer report. It may not be used to determine eligibility for employment, housing, tenancy, credit, insurance, or any other purpose covered by that Act. We do not follow the accuracy and dispute procedures the Act requires of consumer reporting agencies, and this content is not suitable for those decisions.
