Contact
One inbox, read by a person.
General questions, data problems, correction and removal requests, missing counties and advertising enquiries all go to the same address:
Email: contact@countyinmatesearch.net
Please include the exact page address you are writing about. It saves a round trip, and with 510 county pages published it is often the difference between a same-day answer and a slow one.
What we can help with
- A record that is wrong, outdated, or about the wrong person. Corrections and removals are free and always will be. We do not need identification documents and ask that you not send any. See corrections and removal for what to include.
- A county we do not cover. Tell us which one. Counties are added as their official sources become readable, and knowing which ones people actually need changes the order we work in.
- A page that looks broken or out of date. Every county page shows its last sync time; if it is clearly stale, that is worth reporting.
- Data and methodology questions. Researchers and reporters are welcome. The aggregate exports on the data report page are free under a Creative Commons Attribution licence, and we will explain how anything was computed, including where the coverage is skewed.
- Advertising and sponsorship. Same address.
What we cannot do
- Look up an individual for you. The rosters on this site are the same ones we would search. If someone is not listed, see how to find someone in county jail — the usual reasons are a recent booking, a release, or the wrong county.
- Contact anyone in custody, or pass a message. We have no access to any facility.
- Arrange a release, post a bond, or recommend a bondsman or attorney. If anyone contacts you claiming to do this on our behalf, it is not us — see the warning on how bail and bond work.
- Give legal advice. Nothing here is legal advice; for a specific case you need an attorney licensed in that state.
- Change the official county record. Only the sheriff's records unit or the court can do that, and that is the record background checks actually reach for.
Response times
We aim to reply within five business days, and faster for corrections. This is a small operation, so if something is genuinely urgent — someone in custody right now, a bond that has to be posted today — the jail and the court will always be faster than we can be. The phone number for most facilities is on that county's page.
We never charge to correct or remove a record, and we do not work with reputation-management firms. If you receive a message demanding payment to remove something from this site, it did not come from us — forward it to the address above and we will say so in writing.
