By using this site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the site.

What this site is

County Inmate Search is an independent informational directory. It collects custody and booking records that US county sheriffs and detention centres already publish, presents them in a single consistent format, and explains what the fields mean. It also publishes plain-language guides on bond, visitation, inmate money and court records.

It is not a law enforcement agency, a court, a detention operator, a custodian of official records, a background check service, or a consumer reporting agency. It cannot look up individual custody status on request, contact anyone in custody on your behalf, arrange a release, or give legal advice.

Permitted use

The site is provided for general informational use. You may read it, link to it, and cite it. Aggregate statistics published on the data report page are offered under a Creative Commons Attribution licence and may be reused with attribution.

Prohibited use

You may not use this site, or any record shown on it, to harass, threaten, stalk, dox, extort, intimidate or endanger any person. You may not use it to contact, pressure or solicit a person listed on a roster or their family.

You may not use it for any purpose regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, including decisions about employment, housing, tenancy, credit, insurance or eligibility for a licence or benefit. This site is not a consumer reporting agency, does not follow the accuracy and dispute procedures the Act requires, and its content is not permissible for those decisions. Using it that way may expose you to liability under federal and state law.

You may not use the site to offer, advertise or operate a service that charges people to have a record removed, and you may not represent yourself as acting for this site in any such offer.

No warranty and no reliance

Records are provided as they appear in the official county source at the time of the last successful sync, without warranty of accuracy, completeness, currency or fitness for any purpose. Booking data is generated quickly, by people under pressure, in systems of widely varying quality: names are misspelled, charges entered at intake often differ from what a prosecutor ultimately files, and release timestamps lag.

Every county page records when it was last synced and links to the official source. For anything time-sensitive — whether a person is in custody now, the exact bond amount, whether a hold exists — the jail and the court are the authorities, not this site. We are not liable for decisions made in reliance on the content here.

Corrections and removal

We correct and remove records free of charge and review every request individually. There is never a fee, and no payment will ever speed up or influence a decision. See corrections and removal. Removing a record here does not change the underlying official record held by the county, which has to be addressed with that agency or the court.

Automated access

Indexing by search engines and AI search crawlers is permitted and welcomed; see our robots file for the current position. Scraping, bulk downloading or republishing the contents of this site for commercial redistribution is not permitted. If you want the data, take the free aggregate exports on the data report page instead — that is what they are for, and no permission is needed to use them with attribution.

Advertising

This site is supported by advertising, which is what keeps it free and keeps removals free. Advertisements are served by third parties and their presence is not an endorsement. See our privacy policy for how advertising cookies work and what choices you have.

Changes

We may update these terms. The current version always applies, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.

An arrest is not a conviction. See the disclaimer for the limits on what a custody record establishes.
