Privacy Policy

Short version: there are no accounts, we do not sell personal data, and the only third parties involved are Google's analytics and advertising services described below.

Information we collect

Browsing this site requires no registration and no personal details. There is no login, no newsletter and no form that asks who you are. Standard server and analytics data such as approximate location, device type, referring page and pages viewed may be collected to understand traffic. If you email us, we keep that correspondence in order to handle your request.

Searching a roster happens in your browser. What you type into the search box on a county page is used to filter data already loaded on that page; it is not sent to us as a search query and we keep no log of who looked for which name.

Analytics

Traffic measurement uses Google Analytics 4, which sets cookies and processes an abbreviated IP address to count visits and report aggregate usage. It is not used to identify individual visitors, and no data from it is combined with the custody records published here. If you prefer to opt out entirely, Google publishes a browser add-on that blocks it across all sites.

Advertising and cookies

This site may display advertising served by third parties, including Google. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.

You can limit this in several independent ways:

Where advertising is shown to visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, a consent message is presented before any personalised advertising cookies are set, and you can accept, refuse or manage individual purposes at that point. That choice can be changed at any time through the same consent tool. Refusing does not restrict access to anything on this site.

Records published on this site

Custody records shown here are public records obtained from official county sources. They are published as a record of government activity, not as a profile of an individual. We deliberately do not publish booking photographs, dates of birth or home addresses, and that exclusion is enforced in code by a test that fails the build if those fields ever appear in the published data.

This site is not a consumer reporting agency and the data here must not be used to make decisions about employment, housing, credit, insurance or tenancy. If a record concerns you and is inaccurate or should not be published, see corrections and removal — it is free, always, and we never ask for a copy of your identity document.

How long we keep things

Roster data is replaced at every sync rather than accumulated: when a county stops listing someone, the next sync removes them from this site and we do not keep a historical archive of individual custody entries. Email correspondence is kept only as long as needed to handle the request. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' own retention settings.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of personal information, and to object to it. If you are in the EEA or UK this includes the rights under the GDPR; if you are a California resident it includes the rights under the CCPA, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising in the sense those laws define. Contact us and we will respond as required by applicable law.

Children

This site is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. Juvenile detention facilities are excluded from the data we publish.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected or who receives it, the date at the top of this page will change with it. There is no mailing list to notify, so the date is the honest signal.
